![]() ![]() I have Smart-adapted APO ZE Sonnar 135/2 for that focal length, it is a bit better-corrected and sharper than the 135/1.8 but the character of 135/1.8 is unique/special and if I could use one with all the A7-series AF gizmos I'd propably would take 135/1.8 over APO. To my eye the Batis is also sharper.Īn SSM-updated 135/1.8 would be very nice. I much prefer it over the Sony 85/1.4 ZA for reasons listed above. USed with LA-EA4 meant tight grouping of AF points (and potential accuracy problems not so nice when one has gotten used to Eye-AF and flexibility of sensor-focusing. The LoCA was very nasty at times and the AF noise gave it really old mechanical feel. Lenses with built-in focus motor focus faster and more quietly than lenses without a focus motor which rely on the camera's body focus motor. Had this lens for a year with my A7R, agree 100%. has a silent focus motor built into the lens. You might, also, want to consider the Canon 85mm f1.2 with the Metabones IV adapter. ![]() At f1.8, the subject isolation is likely as good, or better, than an 85mm shot at f1.4. I highly recommend this lens!! I expect (hope) that Sony will release an SSM2 version of this lens so it can be used on the A7RII with the LA-EA3 adapter (or release an LA-EA5 adapter w/o Pellicle mirror but with motor-drive). I anxiously await my copy.įor great sharpness and isolation, I use the Sony/Zeiss 135 f1.8 at f1.8 and it is incredibly sharp and has some of the most creamy bokeh I have ever seen. The Batis is sharp right from f1.8 from viewing the RAW files I have downloaded. The Sigma 85mm f1.4 is good, but I would need to stop-down to f1.8 to obtain sharpness that was pleasing to my eye. 90mm f2.8 has amazing IQ across the board but Batis focuses faster and allows the extra stop. Batis 85 is the best value for the money for portrait style in native emount IMHO. I had a love-hate relationship with this lens. Having shot with both 90mm Macro and the Batis 85, I love both lenses. Essentially, a nice lens, but the focus motor could wake-up sleeping cats (not good for weddings) and the Longitudinal Chromatic Aberration was severe in high-contrast situations. ![]()
